The only question that remained was - why?
Sedulously awake thinking about last night. It was raining yet again reminiscent of a life spent crying over life itself. He was young but had lived more than one life. Each moment had been a struggle each moment was a revelation of unanswered questions asked again and again into emptiness and yet even the echo was lost.
He came home with hope, without reason, and all but darkness was alien to him. For days he wished to lose his memory all he remembered were her last words. As the days went by he lived more than he could have. Each day he searched for the answer to the only question that remained.
As winter approached and the carols sounded afar, he celebrated his life and offered thanks, thanks for being alive once, thanks for being loved once. He had made his calls to wish happiness; he had said his good byes. Tonight, he thought, he would find his answer. Tonight he would answer.
He stepped out to the distant lights, the stars blurred by the rain looked closer. He stood there amidst the rain, amidst all his memories; amidst pain. He closed his eyes to see her for the last time to say 'Sorry for leaving I wish you would have stayed'. The rain made his arm heavier as his fingers ran over the cold steel. He wanted to say good-bye he wanted to scream to drop down to his knees. Yet he stood still just the way he had for her answer but still the question remained.
It was raining, and he had lived. Unanswered.
